Millions of women suffer from pelvic floor disorders, including pelvic organ prolapse and urinary and fecal incontinence, yet clinical options remain poor. One of our research missions is to discover scientifically rational preventative strategies for pelvic floor disorders and treatments that directly target and, therefore, reverse the pathways responsible for pelvic floor dysfunction. Injectable biomaterials offer exciting new possibilities of a low-cost minimally invasive approaches for prevention of pathological alterations in pelvic soft tissues following maternal birth injury.
